Did you have a great time? We had a great time. Can’t quite believe that it’s over, can you? Most of the committee are sitting around right now being glad it went so well – but also exhausted! Thank you to everyone who helped us make it happen: our Guests of Honour, Cat and Dave; the Continuum Foundation; Mikee, for all the AV; the hotel staff; the dealers; everyone on program – and all of you who came along!

We’ve managed to find some lost property – a black jacket with a Tarhari Arthur S. Levine logo. If it’s yours, drop us a line at info@continuum.org.au

Thank you all for being a part of Continuum 7. We hope you all had as good a time as we did. And now – Continuum 8! We want it to be just as great a weekend as this one was. Once again, if you’d like to be involved, just let us know! The open committee meeting is Sunday, 3rd July, 11am at the Carlton Library meeting room. Memberships will be available on the website – er, by the end of the week (we have to unpack!).

We’d like to remind everybody that the cutoff date for the arrival of online and postal memberships will be this coming Friday June 3, and the current rates ($165/$140/$35) have been extended until that date.

As always, memberships will be available at the door:

Full weekend rate: $180/$155/$35
Day rates:
Saturday: $95/$75/$15
Sunday: $95/$75/$15
Monday: $50/$40/$15

Don’t forget, Friday night is free! This is a great chance to introduce someone to conventions who has never been before. We promise a terrific night’s entertainment.

Registration opens on Friday June 10 from 6.30pm. Thanks to our friends at Gollancz, the first 50 conbags given out will contain a free book! For more information on memberships, visit http://continuum.org.au/join/.

Our complete program is now available on the Continuum website! It’s jam-packed with awesome stuff, and can be viewed at http://continuum.org.au/program-and-events/. Some selections sure to be fun:

The Great Debate returns! MC Jack Dann will wrangle our Guests of Honour and their respective teams as they get stuck into this year’s topic: “Immortality – there’s no future in it”.

We welcome the New Melbourne Browncoats as they launch their new incarnation with an extravaganza of screenings, trivia, raffle, auction and more! Costumes are encouraged.

Our inaugural Kraftee Klatsch is complemented by badgemaking sessions and craft-centred panels, while fans of fannish poetry and music will find a filk session and plenty of panels to their taste.

And of course there’s the Chronos Awards, celebrating the best achievements in Victorian speculative fiction and the fan community.

Plus there’s the Maskobalo, the annual fan fund auction, screenings, readings, and panels on more topics both silly and serious than you can shake a stick at. Full listings and descriptions are available now via the link above. Check it out!

———————

By popular demand, this year Continuum will be offering a Small Press Market on Sunday June 12 from 2-5pm. This is an opportunity for our author members to make their work available directly to their readers. Places are limited, so please book ahead by emailing info@continuum.org.au.

Author signing slots are also available throughout the weekend. Author members interested in holding a signing can express their interest at the registration desk.

The Fan Fund Auction will run on Sunday June 12 at 6pm. Item submission forms will be available at the rego desk; submissions will close at 5pm prior to the auction.

Filkers interested in performing at the Sunday night filk session are also invited to sign up at rego.

Have you got a fannish-themed short film or vid that you’d like to show off to a wider audience? Sunday night’s Screenings session could be just the thing. Drop us a line at info@continuum.org.au for more information. Note that submissions should be your own original or transformative work.

———————

As a warm up to the big event, we have one last pre-con movie outing planned for Sunday June 5.

In X-Men: First Class, the X-Men return with a new origins story centred around Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. Discover what happened to turn friends into enemies and how they became Professor X and Magneto. If you haven’t caught the trailer yet you can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yq7Za1JnZg

Looks action packed right?
Join us then!

When: Sunday June 5, meet at 3.10 for a 3.40pm session
Where: Hoyts, Level 3, Melbourne Central
Cost: $15

RSVP by sending an email to events@continuum.org.au by 11am on June 5 with X-Men in the subject line and include your name, mobile number and how many tickets you’d like. Payment is in cash on the day.

(If you cannot attend after RSVPing, please let us know by 11am as we buy tickets early to ensure all seats are together. Unfortunately if you let us know after that we will still require payment as the discounted tickets we use don’t allow returns.)

Catch up after for a debrief with drinks and eatables at The Groove Train (next to Hoyts box office).

———————

If you haven’t thought about your Maskobalo costume yet, now is probably the time!

Discover the portal to another world beneath the streets of Melbourne. A world of carnivales, masked figures and mysterious characters. You will find doorways to your deepest dreams, whether you travel by TARDIS, DeLorean or Heart of Gold. You may find yourself in Fantastica, Oz or Wonderland; London Below or Un Lun Dun; the Chocolate Factory, Never Never Land, Narnia or the Imaginarium.

Change your identity behind a simple mask, or go all out with the tulle and taffeta at Continuum’s Changing Consciousness Maskobalo, Saturday June 11, 2011.

Photo op and costume awards at 8pm, dancing from 8.30pm.

———————

The Continuum 7 programme is in its last stages of completion and will be up on the website any day now! Thank you to everyone who has gotten involved this year; it’s looking like a very exciting line-up.

However, our Readings & Rants stream still has openings. If you are an author and would like to read from your works or if you have a subject you want to get on the soapbox and rant about, we want to hear from you!

There are 15-minute timeslots available throughout the weekend (don’t worry, you don’t have to have 15 minutes’ worth of material, that’s just the maximum). If you would like to claim one, please email us on programming@continuum.org.au and let us know whether you want to do a reading or a rant (or one of each) and if there are any times over the Continuum weekend that you aren’t available.

Cheers,

       The Continuum Programming Team
